PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY. ASSUMPTIONS AND DESCRIPTION.

Psychodynamic therapy is one of the forms of individual therapeutic work.  Currently, the psychodynamic approach is based on an individual and unique approach towards the patient.It is effective in case of neuroses , personality disorders ,anxiety and depression disorders.

Typically, the therapeutic session lasts about 50 minutes . It is recommended to attend at least one meeting a week, usually twice. The duration of therapy depends mainly on the patient and his motivation - it happens that it lasts only half a year, but may extend to a period of several years. At the consultations, the patient and therapist determine the purpose and principles of cooperation- they may change during treatment. The psychodynamic method emphasizes the relationship between the psychotherapist and the patient - creating a specific bond, thanks to which the therapy will be "tailored" to the patient.

Understanding the patient and following him is key in this trend - hence his name - psychodynamic psychotherapy. The therapist is supposed to adapt to the individual needs of the patient and accept him as he is. He encourages the patient not to censor his thoughts, talk freely about current events, memories, ask questions, and even refer to dreams. Therapeutic work will focus more on the thoughts and feelings of the patient than on the presentation of the formal version of events. Psychologist may suggest to touch certain specific threads, although it does not impose a topic. In addition to verbal messages , the psychotherapist also takes into account what the patient thinks about, what his gestures show, how he talks about how he behaves during the session.
